The Ugly Fucklings were a rock and roll band that formed in 2002 in the Boston neighborhood of Brighton Massachusetts. The 'Fucklings were made up of a group of friends from Plymouth, MA who moved to Brighton in September 2002 after Adam Sykes (guitar, vox) finished art school and was looking for a roommate or two. Joe Price (vox, guitar), who Adam knew from Plymouth was looking to get out of the suburbs and the drudgery of life in the small town of Wareham.
Joe and Adam had been hanging out together and playing music for several years, so living together was a natural precursor to the formation of a proper band. Things started to come together when a guy Joe was working with in Brighton (Mark Last-name-escapes-me) brought his drum kit over to their Nonantum St apartment. The rocking went from there.
Joe, Adam, and Mark were joined by Steve Clayton (bass, vox) who was a longtime friend of Joes and a newer friend of Adam's. The 'Fucklings would go on the practice for several months, developing there song, mostly written by Joe, and working on their craft. Soon it came to light that Mark would no longer be able to play with the band and Joe and Adam's other roommate Dan Van Orden (an art school classmate of Adam's) would sit in on drums for a short spell. While Dan was enthusiastic about the band, he was not a drummer and the 'Fucklings were in need of a skilled time keeper.
As the search for a drummer unofficially began, Adam started to put the bug in his friends ears. Adam O'Day (drums) was one of those friends. Sykes had known O'Day from their time at art school and the two worked together at a local mattress retailer to pay the bills. O'Day would end up joining the 'Fucklings shortly after their first gig and it all went from there.
After playing the Boston scene for 7 odd years, UF unofficially called it quits. Everyone still keeps in touch (for the most part) and there is always talk of playing another show. For now though, UF is in retirement. |
